3 Ways That Winterfolk Selects Talent for This Year’s Festival
1. Artistic Director Committee – Will Select and Hire 80 Artists -
The AD committee will select and hire approximately 80 known artists based on a variety of criteria, for which the top level consideration is artists that best fit the festival programming themes. (This varies every year). Although we hire artists from at least four provinces or territories outside Ontario, our focus is on southern Ontario talent.
We look for topical artists who are working hard to perfect their artform, and especially those who are creating a ‘buzz’ within the roots community, filling their calendars, generating some publicity, and getting their name out there. Other considerations include emerging talent, creativity, originality, potential draw, etc. Artists of interest will be contacted prior to Nov 30, 2009.
2. Send in a Submission Through Sonicbids or Via Post – 10 Artists Hired Through Submissions
Deadline Dec 30, 2009 – In keeping with our mission, Winterfolk is committed to offer performance opportunities to artists who are not known (or not selected to the Artistic Selection Committee- regardless of prior festival experience.) A Submissions Review Team – operating separately and autonomously from the AD committee – will hire 10 artists will be selected from Submissions. The submissions Review Team consists of volunteers appointed by the festival director. Submissions are accepted either online via Sonicbids, or via mail. To submit online, follow this link to Sonicbids .
To submit via mail, send a CD and single page bio/info sheet to The Association of Artists For a Better World, 182-4936 Yonge St., Toronto, Ontario, Canada, M2N-6S3. Pls. enclose $15.00, or VISA info with permission.
